How to take care of your solid surface countertop

 

Daily Preventive Care: Avoid allowing any strong chemicals (paint removers, oven cleaners, etc.) to come in contact with your Solid Surface countertop. In the case of any contact, flush the area with water as quickly as possible. Avoid using nail polish near your solid surface countertop. If nail polish does come in contact with your top, remove it with a nail polish remover and flush with water. Avoid cutting directly on your Solid Surface countertop (Solid Surface will scratch) by using a cutting board. Do not stand or sit on the countertop.  Run cold water when pouring boiling water into your sink.

 

Heat Damage Prevention: DO NOT place anything that is hot on your countertop. Hot pans, hot plates as well as some heat-generating appliances, like frying pans or crock pots, can damage the surface of your countertop. To prevent any damage always use hot pads or trivets with rubber feet to protect your solid surface.

 

Day to Day Cleaning: For daily cleaning use warm soapy water or non-abrasive cleaners such as Simple Green or any other commercially available solid surface cleaners or glass cleaner. After cleaning rinse the countertop with water and dry with a towel to prevent possible spotting, especially in areas with hard water. To disinfect your Solid Surface top, occasionally wipe with mixture of bleach and water (1 part water/1part bleach) and dry with a towel.

 

Spills and Stains: Most spills and stains can be removed by following the basic Day to Day Cleaning instructions. For more difficult stains use and abrasive cleanser (such as Soft Scrub® or Bon Ami) and a Multipurpose Scotch-Brite® scrub pad. Always rub in a circular motion.

 

Cuts & Scratches: Solid Surface is the only fully renewable countertop surface. Cuts and scratches can be removed through the use of various grits of sandpaper and Scotch-Brite® pads. The sanding process requires the use of a random orbit sander and if not done properly it will result in an unpleasant and uneven finish. For this reason it is recommended that you call a professional countertop service company should your countertop require sanding.
