I was recently browsing websites and come across an article written on Better Homes and Gardens website bhg.com about kitchen backsplash ideas. I found their advice to be helpful so I thought I would simplify some of their topics here.

1) Using a backsplash only in a specific part of the kitchen. This can help keep costs down for something like a full backsplash and can also be a great accent piece.

2) Using tile. Tile is not a great material for countertop surfaces due to the fact that it makes the countertops difficult to clean. However, for use as a backsplash tile can be a great choice. You can also be very artistic with your tile design. Bold and colorful, or subtle and beautiful.

3) Using Stainless Steel. Using stainless steel as a backsplash creats a beautiful look and is also makes it easy to clean behind stove and sink areas. If you have stainless stell appliances it can also join the room together, although you do not want to go overboard.

4) Multiple Materials. Who says you have to just pick one style of backsplash to match your countertop. Why not use different styles to create a unique design.

5) Paint. Simple Painting the wall above your countertop can provide a quick color matching fix and is the lightest on the wallet.

Matching the countertop material is also a possibility. Corian, quartz, and granite can always be used for either a standard height backsplash or a full height backsplash that goes all the way up to the cabinets.
